COVID 19 UPDATE

Constant weather changes can indeed be very frustrating. For example, you might be shivering from the cold one day, then wake up to the sun the next morning in all its humid glory. When the weather is particularly unpredictable, it’s very important to keep your heating and air conditioning system in tip-top shape so it continues to function effectively.

HVAC System

Read on for helpful tips from AC & Refrigeration Works on how to prepare your HVAC system to keep up with the fluctuating weather.

Use a smart thermostat. With a smart or programmable thermostat, you can say goodbye to manually adjusting your heating or cooling system multiple times a day. With one tap on your smartphone, you can easily maintain the temperature of your entire house. This technology can also be used to monitor the weather and schedule different temperature settings throughout the day.

For instance, you can program your smart thermostat to cool down your house if the temperature rises above 74, or heat things up if it drops below 65. While these changes will of course be reflected on your monthly energy bills, rest assured that your indoor air quality will remain ideal for your comfort. Keep in mind that you can always choose to program your thermostat to adjust your heating and cooling system when the house is empty.

Conserve energy efficiently. If you keep switching between heating and cooling, you’ll see a significant rise in your overall utility bills. A great way to prevent this from happening is by keeping your thermostat set to Auto, and Heat at a low temperature (around 67). While it may be a little toasty during the day, you’ll be prepared when it’s time for bed. Meanwhile, if it’s cool outside, you might want to leave the windows open to keep your home at a comfortable temperature without causing your energy bills to increase.

Additionally, if you have unoccupied bedrooms in your house, you might want to consider closing off those vents as an economical option. You should also keep an eye on the forecast so you can turn off your heating or cooling system before the temperature changes. This will prevent your system from wasting energy if there’s a big temperature shift over a short period of time.

Conduct regular maintenance. To stay comfortable during fluctuating weather, you need to make sure that your heating and cooling system is operating properly. That’s why it’s advisable to perform regular maintenance on these important appliances. Your hired contractors should be able to unclog or replace your air filters. They may also conduct an air conditioning repair if needed.
