COVID 19 UPDATE

It’s important to keep your air conditioner in tip-top condition in order to keep your home cool and comfortable, especially during the summer months. But how do you know if your HVAC equipment needs a tune-up, repair or even replacement? If you see any of the following telltale signs, then you’ll likely need to call a technician.

air conditioning failure

The conditioned air is warm. When you feel warm air blowing out of the vents, check your thermostat, switch it to cooling mode and set it lower than the current temperature in your house. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, a defective compressor or restricted airflow may be to blame.

Airflow is insufficient. Poor airflow is a common indicator that there’s a problem with the ductwork. Check if the air filter is clogged or the motor is broken. If insufficient airflow is a typical issue in your home and air conditioning repair isn’t possible, consider installing an energy-recovery ventilator. Your cooling system may also benefit from zoning systems.

There’s excessive humidity. An efficient air conditioning unit should be able to control the humidity levels indoors. If your cooling system can’t keep moisture levels within the appropriate range, then it’s high time that you get your unit serviced. A quick recalibration may do the trick; however, in some instances, installing a whole-house dehumidifier is the best option.

There’s a pungent smell. If you smell unpleasant, funky odors coming from your air conditioner, your unit needs a tune-up and thorough cleaning session, and an ultraviolet lamp needs to be installed to help eliminate microbial growth.
